At Blackbird, we believe it is incredibly important to give back and help those less fortunate. You have welcomed us graciously into your community, and we hope to earn that place by sharing with others the kindness we have received.
♥ The Pay-What-You-May Program: Helping to end child hunger.
If you have been to the bakery, you may have seen a seen our Pay-What-You-May display. This grab-bag program allows for us to offer imperfect (but still perfectly tasty) baked goods to our guests for a fraction of the normal price. Guests choose to pay what they would like for items that are still good, but simply don’t meet our stringent quality standards for appearance. An example might be a misshapen scone or an under-baked cookie. All proceeds are donated to a charity that benefits impoverished children.
♥ Icing Smiles: Creating special cakes for children with incurable diseases.
Icing Smiles is an organization we proudly belong to, whose network of bakers create one-of-a-kind birthday cakes for children with incurable diseases. The smiles on the children’s faces is worth every moment of work we spend on creating something truly special for the families affected by the illness.
♥ Second Harvest: Feeding the homeless.
The majority of the items we bake fresh in-house daily only have a shelf life of one day. Once these items are no longer high enough quality to sell, we donate them to Second Harvest Food Bank, which helps to feed the homeless.
